Travel Tip: How to Check for Bed Bugs

It’s not a pretty topic but a reality when staying in hotels. So, protect yourself and loved ones and check for bed bugs.

Items needed:

A flashlight (even the one that comes with a cell is acceptable)

A credit card

Instructions to Check for Bed Bugs:

1. Remove all the bedding down to the bottom sheet. Run your flashlight over the surface.

2. Closely examine the folds and seams in the corners of the mattress. Check the surface of bed linens. Use a credit card to get underneath the folds of the mattress and closely examine the darker hiding spots with a flashlight.

3. Check for surface of mattress and if possible flip over mattress. Examine the underside of the bed frame.

4. Next, check the furniture and curtains.

When you get home from traveling, kill the bugs by placing clothes in a hot dryer for 30 minutes (simply washing the clothes usually won’t kill bed bugs.
