Instructions to Check for Bed Bugs:
1. Remove all the bedding down to the bottom sheet. Run your flashlight over the surface.
2. Closely examine the folds and seams in the corners of the mattress. Check the surface of bed linens. Use a credit card to get underneath the folds of the mattress and closely examine the darker hiding spots with a flashlight.
3. Check for surface of mattress and if possible flip over mattress. Examine the underside of the bed frame.
4. Next, check the furniture and curtains.
When you get home from traveling, kill the bugs by placing clothes in a hot dryer for 30 minutes (simply washing the clothes usually won’t kill bed bugs.
What to Look For When Searching for Bed Bugs:
-Live bed bugs.
-Rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses caused by bed bugs being crushed.
-Dark spots (about this size: •), which are bed bug excrement and may bleed on the fabric like a marker would.
-Eggs and eggshells, which are tiny (about 1mm) and pale yellow skins.
Where Do Bed Bugs Live:
Bed Bugs are often found in the bed but can live anywhere in a dwelling. Other common areas to find Bed Bugs are the following:
-In electrical receptacles and appliances
-Under loose wall paper and wall hangings.
-Junction where the wall and the ceiling meet
-In drawer joints
-In the seams of chairs and couches and between cushions
-In the folds of curtains
-In the folds of the furniture
