Delicious & Easy Grilled Chicken Kabobs

Standard

Items Needed:

2 pounds of chopped chicken

2 pounds of chopped vegetables (your choice)

1 1/2 cup orange juice

1 cup extra-virgin olive oil

1/2 cup lime juice

1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce

2 teaspoons ground cumin

2 teaspoons honey

4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions

In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, oil, lime juice, soy sauce, cumin, honey, garlic and pepper until well blended to make a marinade. Put vegetables in 1 or 2 large ziplock bags. Put chicken in another large ziplock bag. Divide marinade equally among the bags, seal and refrigerate, turning the bags occasionally, for at least 3 hours or  overnight.

Prepare a grill for medium-high heat cooking. Place vegetables and chicken onto skewers. (If using wooden skewers, soak in water for 30 minutes before assembling.) Discard marinade.

Grill, turning often, until chicken is just cooked through and slightly charred, about 8 minutes. If using the oven, preheat the oven to 425°F. Arrange skewers in a single layer on a large rimmed baking sheet. Roast until chicken is just cooked through, about 10 minutes, and vegetables are tender. Transfer skewers to a platter and serve.

5 Ways to Stop Procrastination

Tick tock. Tick tock. You know procrastinating isn’t doing the situation any good. Yet, you continue to do it. Understandable. Who likes doing something that you don’t enjoy? Yet, the deed needs to get done so let’s look at ways to beat procrastination.

 

Change your mentality

Look at the benefits of accomplishing the task. Be honest. Be practical. Once you’re done with the job, it’s over. You can go on with your life.

Break it down to smaller tasks

Completing each step of the process can actually be encouraging since you’re accomplish something making the whole issue seem less insurmountable. You may find that the project takes less time to complete than expected. Planning your steps decreases the time used to make corrections because less mistakes are made with a thought out plan. Also, you spend less time trying to figure out what to do for the next step.

Change your environment

Create a space that lacks distraction but promotes a calm but productive environment. What this environment might be is up to the individual. Dr. Elizabeth Lombardo, author of Better Than Perfect, has a helpful tip. She encourages  “So try this: During your scheduled block of time for working on a particular task, close your email and IM, turn off your phone (or at least set it on “Do Not Disturb” and put it out of sight), and don’t let yourself get on the web until you have completed the task, or hold off any necessary internet searches until the end.”

Look at the consequences of not completing the goals in short and long terms

Short term negative: It’s not a good feeling to underperform or failing to complete a goal when you’re quite capable. It can induce thoughts that you’re a failure creating this emotional and mental downward spiral, be it in a big or a small way.

Long term negative: The pattern of unproductive behavior continues along with experiences the consequences of it.

Reward yourself

Treating yourself reinforces positive behavior. Knowing there is something that brings happiness is waiting for you at the end of a finish line encourages you to finish and run faster. For example, working out all week so you can eat your favorite food without guilt. Besides, breaking a habit is hard so treat yourself. You deserve it!

Plan a Picnic

Surprise your guest with a picnic outdoors! Rent or borrow some inexpensive foldable table and chairs, if needed.

Add Color

Adding color to a summer party is a simple task. Add a table cloth that is bright in color or that even has a pattern. Too add extra pop to the table include a few fun and simple table decorations. Use plates of color in addition to the standard white plates.

Include Outdoor Lights

Who wants to go inside when everyone is having fun?. So, add outdoor lightening to the backyard. Hanging strand lights will give the yard an inviting cozy atmosphere as the night settles around the party.

 

 

 

 

 

What Does Refundable and NonRefundable Mean for Airline Tickets?

Have you ever tried to make a change to an airline ticket and was surprised by the restrictions and fees? Below is information for the more common types of refundable and nonrefundable tickets.

Refundable

Refundable doesn’t always mean getting all of your money paid for the ticket refunded back to you. Below is what refundable may mean depending upon the rules of the ticket.

1. There is a cancellation fee that is deducted from the value of the ticket. The remaining value of the ticket after the fee has been collected is refunded back to the consumer.

2. Some tickets are completely refundable back to the original form of payment.

3. Some refundable tickets allow changes to be made without a penalty fee. When making a change to these tickets there may be a difference in fare to be paid meaning only the difference between the price of the new flights minus the initial price of the ticket.

Nonrefundable

Some airlines offer different types of non refundable tickets.

1. There are tickets that are very cheap that offers no form of a refund.

2. Some nonrefundable tickets do not allow any changes to be made. These tickets are sold by airlines and vendors such as Priceline, Travelocity, Expedia, etc.  This means if the ticket can’t be used as purchased money has been wasted. These tickets sometimes lack amenities such as not allowing check luggage or maybe seat restrictions.

3. There are tickets that allow changes but with a penalty fee. The fee is deducted from the value of the ticket. Also, you’re responsible for the difference in fare. Example, you paid $1000 for your ticket. The ticket has a $100 fee for a change so you’re left with $900.

You find a new flight for $300. So, the remaining value will cover the cost of the change. If the new flight cost $1500 then you owe $600. Some vendors or airlines will issue a voucher if the difference is in your favor while others do not give out vouchers. The buyer just does not receive the residual amount that is left.

There are so many different rules and stipulations, regulations and legalities involved with the tickets that are sold. Sometimes the above example noted in Example 3 isn’t as cut and dry since the prices of the tickets varies between roundtrip fare versus one way, minimum day stay, maximum day stay, and more. But this is a whole other post. For now, we’ll just keep it simple and stick with the basics.

Rules of a ticket can often be read before paying for a ticket during the booking process. Read if the ticket is refundable or nonrefundable on the website or call the customer service number to ask an agent. Inform the agent of the exact flights that you are looking to purchase as rules of tickets vary per flight especially for international travel.

 

 

 

Easy Breakfast Frittata Recipe

This an easy meal to make for breakfast. Save time by chopping the ingredients the night before. Just add or take away what you like to the recipe below.

Ingredients:

2 large eggs

⅛ cup green pepper

1 chopped onion

¼ cup grated cheddar cheese

salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Heat oven to 350°F.

2. Beat eggs with the whisk and add the rest of ingredients.

3. Put the ingredients in a casserole dish and pop in the oven.

4. Bake 15-20 minutes. or until knife inserted in center comes out clean, and top is puffed and golden brown. This will vary with the oven used for this dish.

 

How to Plant a One Container Garden

Do you want fresh organic vegetables at a low cost whenever you desire?

Well, just grow your own garden. Growing a garden saves money and it allows you to eat a variety of produce that you can’t find easily at the store, such as a particular type of kale. A one container garden is for those who want a no fuss garden and those who lack space. The container can sit right outside your door or on your balcony.

The container that is used needs to be light in weight as possible. It will get heavier due to the soil and water. This is such a simple garden to start and maintain! So, what should you grow? Whatever, you want to eat. A variety of herbs, peppers, cucumbers, mini carrots, etc.

Below is a very basic and easy way to grow your own one container garden.

 

Items Needed:

One large container (that will allow water to drain)

Purchased plants that are already growing (herbs, peas, carrots, etc) and will be transferred to the container or vegetable seeds

Trowel

Fertilized soil for vegetables

Drain tray

 

Instructions:

1. Pick a very large container and place that has lots of sunshine. Place the drain tray underneath the container. Place soil into the container. Keep the soil two to three inches below the top of the container.

2. Place purchased plants that have already start to grow or seeds in the soil. Leave about three to four inches in between each plant.

3. Sprinkle the fertilizer among the plants all around the container.

4. Just add water when the soil feels dry.

 

Things to think about:

  • Don’t over water. Yeah, too much water can be a thing for a variety of reasons for a garden.
  • Vegetables such as corn, radishes, beans, winter and summer squash, spinach, peas, beets, onions, and lettuce should be started as seeds rather than a purchased transferred crop. Plant more seeds than needed because not all will grow.
  • Organic soil is best. It’s healthier for the produce and some people claim the vegetables taste better when organic soil is used than non organic soil.
  • Learn which vegetables need less space. Some vegetables need a lot of space making them unsuitable for a container garden.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Health Benefits of Kombucha Tea

It is a fermented drink with a base of Black or Green Tea that provides several medicinal benefits. The fermentation process is started by a mixture of bacteria and yeast after it’s combined with sugar. Yes, that’s right! Organic cane sugar is recommended to create a healthy drink. However, a lot of the sugar is consumed by the yeast during the fermentation process so very little of it remains in the tea.
