“Tasha Reiko Brown of the Style Network’s How Do I Look is not as big a fan.  “I find it collects in fine lines and pores and accentuates dry flaky areas,” she says. “If you’re a woman of color, it can be very difficult to find a shade that’s a good match for your skin.”

Things to Consider

Some companies are now making mineral makeup with the products/skin irritants that they initially did not include in it: oils, chemical dyes, etc

Some media reports have advised women to scan labels for bismuth oxychloride, the ingredient that gives makeup its pearly finish. It’s been said to cause skin irritation and acne flare-ups, leading some mineral makeup companies to eliminate it from their formulas.

Minerals in the makeup are usually composed of very tiny powder fine flakes of minerals, and in this form, it’s not scientifically proven that they’re any safer to use than liquid forms of makeup

Bismuth Oxychloride is a synthetically prepared white or nearly white amorphous or finely crystalline powder” “Bismuth Oxychloride imparts silvery sheen (pearlescence) to cosmetics and personal care products. Bismuth is a naturally occurring, brittle metal. Because bismuth compounds come from the earth they may contain trace amounts of heavy metals. The levels of heavy metals in Bismuth Oxychloride are regulated by the FDA, and the small amounts that may eventually be in cosmetic or personal care products do not pose a risk to human health”
