Paronychia: infection caused by bacteria, yeast, or fungi

-can occur in damaged cuticle

-can be painful

Paronychia Symptoms: 

-painful, red, swollen area around the nail, at the cuticle or at the site of a hangnail or other injury

-there may be pus-filled blisters   cuticle

Paronychia Treatment:

-antibiotics

-surgical procedure to get rid of fluid or (part of) the nail

-soaking nails in warm water multiple times a day

 

Simple Tips to Maintain healthy nails

Nail polish remover: Decrease the use of nail polish remover. Nail polish remover can be drying especially, if containing acetone.

Moisturize hands: If the skin is dry the cuticle is experiencing a loss of moisture derived from natural fats. Don’t forget to moisturize hands after each wash.
